How cell phones have impacted our lives.

I believe that cell phones have had both a negative and positive effect on society. Let's start with the positive first. Cells phones; once a thing of science fiction now a part of everyday reality. Cell phones are amazing they allow for the immediate access to help for those in trouble, they allow families to stay connected across long distances, while traveling ( just as the first cell phone ad ever made showed us), they also allow for us to track lost persons by tracking the receiver in the phone, so as you can see there is allot of very beneficial ways to use the cell phones.

Now, we must look at the bad. Cell phone are more often then not used for the singular purpose of texting rather then to communicate vocally. Talking used to be your identity it used to tell people who you where and the way in which you spoke said allot about what social class you belonged too.

I believe that with all of us now texting we are no longer being good communicators and are loosing our ability to communicate or speak publicly or privately. In the scheme of things texting is a relatively a new idea and we are seeing the adverse effects already.

The last cell phone ad that we looked at is in no way funny it is very truthful people are so busy texting that they forget to pay attention to the would around them it is quite sad but true and I hope that soon people will see the error of their ways and stop wasting their entire livies texting.

Words; our speech, the very thing that used to separate class from class and soul from soul is now being replaced by silent words on a blinking screen

  1. Good points, I even think the people who made that virgin mobile commercial agree that cell phones are taking us over by the way they portray cell phone users in their recent commercials. In one, there was a woman that was in labor but she was online while pushing her baby out and also people "praying" but really on their phones. Both of the scenes are unrealistic but I wouldn't be surprised if someone were actually on there phone while in church.

  2. Yea you did a good job on this post. I think you have made a very good argument. I know that I text more than I talk on the phone. These days everyone is obsessed with their phone and I remember when I broke my phone I was tripping for 2 days waiting to get my new phone.

  3. I agree. Cell phones have many negative and many positive aspects and it is hard to balance them!
